A Gift For Teaching (AGFT) opened its doors nearly 12 years ago to improve public education by transferring community surplus materials and resources free to teachers for their students in need. Since 1998, AGFT has given away $48 million in product. However, there is still lots to be done and with national and local economic challenges, AGFT remains more relevant than ever before.
For the fifth year, the Lake Nona community will be collecting supplies for AGFT’s annual Push for Pencils Supply Drive. Help AGFT keep its free store stocked by making a donation to this annual community-wide drive.

This year, Lake Nona is partnering with Nemours to support the "Santa Shop" program through RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). The Santa Shop has been a successful program in the community for 16 years. This annual holiday event gives children the opportunity to do some "holiday shopping" for every family member living in their household.
Most of the children participating in the program live in poverty level or below poverty level households, suffer from chronic illnesses and developmental disabilities, or have one or both parents incarcerated. The children this year will be from several area elementary schools, Children's Medical Services, Nemours and United Cerebral Palsy.
Please consider donating items for the Santa Shop. Suggestions of items include new games, toys, clothing, jewelry, toiletries... items that you and your family would
enjoy receiving as gifts.
Cash donations are accepted as well and will be used to purchase items needed that have not been donated. Checks may be made payable to "RSVP."
Unwrapped donations or checks may be dropped off at the Lake Nona Information Center by Monday, December 7.

Burnham Topping Out Ceremony
Lake Nona?s Science & Technology Park celebrates another important milestone as construction crews hoist the final steel beams into place at Burnham Institute for Medical Research at Lake Nona. In celebration, the BE&K Building Group is hosting an on-site ?Topping Out? barbeque for construction crews and guests.
The term ?topping out? is used by ironworkers when the final piece of steel has been placed on the building, signifying that the project is not complete but has reached its maximum height. Tracing back to ancient European customs, topping out celebrations remain a tradition in new construction projects as a way to bless a new building, thank its construction workers and wish them continued safety as they complete the project.
Attendance is by invitation only.
