Audubon Center for Birds of Prey and Lake Nona are partnering to raise awareness and funds to benefit wildlife and habitat threatened by the BP Deepwater Horizon Gulf oil spill.

On Saturday, September 11, the Lake Nona Information Center will welcome visiting Raptors from Audubon’s Birds of Prey Center in Maitland. The free event is for the entire family and will feature exhibits and activities demonstrating what Audubon is doing to help in this critical wildlife rescue effort. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary lemonade and cookies, and some great door prizes and giveaways.

If you are unable to attend, you can still help support this event by making a donation or registering to volunteer. Florida Audubon is accepting online contributions to be used exclusively for oil spill rescue response. Visit www.audubonoffloridanews.org for information.

RUNNONA

Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual RUNNONA. This year’s 5k and Nemours Kids’ Run offers a new route that starts and finishes in Lake Nona Medical City. Beginning at the UCF College of Medicine campus, the 3.1 mile route will take runners and walkers through Central Florida’s emerging health and life sciences park along beautifully landscaped boulevards, past state-of-the-art architecture, and alongside pristine natural habitat and lakes featured throughout the planned adjacent residential communities. Tour de Cure at Lake Nona

Register now to support the fight against diabetes. In over 40 states from coast to coast, thousands of cyclists will be pedaling toward finding a cure for this deadly disease. The 2nd Annual Tour de Cure at Lake Nona will take place on March 6.

The 2010 Tour de Cure at Lake Nona was a resounding success raising over $283,000 to support the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Next year’s event will feature new and improved routes, more SAG vehicles, additional mechanical support, route markings, and post race entertainment.
