College of Medicine Welcomes Its Newest Class

The UCF College of Medicine welcomes its third class of medical students on Monday, Aug. 1 at a traditional “White Coat Ceremony,” where medical schools recognize new students as colleagues dedicated to patient care.

The per-invitation-only ceremony will be held in the Pegasus Ballroom in the Student Union on the main UCF campus.

This year, the 3-year-old medical school is welcoming 80 new students, bringing its total enrollment to 180. The college will enroll 100 new students in 2012, and 120 new students in 2013 and each year after that, bringing its full enrollment to 480.

ORLANDO VA MEDICAL CENTER: For Those Who Served

THE ONE MILLION SQUARE FOOT hospital campus is being built at Lake Nona across from the Burnham Institute, the University of Central Florida Medical School and Nemours Children’s Hospital. When it’s complete in 2012 patients can expect to see some of the most cutting-edge technology in prosthetic limbs, including new bionic technologies for arms, legs, and eyes. There will also be specialties in brain injury treatment, post traumatic stress disorder research, and treatments in suicide prevention.

UCF COM students allowed to clinically train in fall

Almost three years after its opening, UCF’s College of Medicine was granted provisional  accreditation this month, making the college just one authorization away from full accreditation.

The decision came from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education after a survey team visited the college in February and assessed the school’s progress.

Valencia breaks ground on Nona campus

Valencia College broke ground on the first building of its new Lake Nona campus on Wednesday.

Located in the northeast quadrant of Lake Nona’s “medical city,” the campus will join the University of Central Florida’s medical school, the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, Nemours Children’s Hospital and the Orlando VA Medical Center. The new campus will open up opportunities for students to study biomedical and life sciences.
